What should the new HOTLIPS Soda bottle cap say?
The point is this: some people think that there is something wrong with our soda because there is “stuff floating around in it.” Well, that stuff is actual fruit pulp from the actual and real fruit, as in picked fresh off the tree or cane. This is one of the main ideas behind HOTLIPS Soda, that real fruit is used and that the pulp in not strained out completely.
First we put the message “contains fruit pulp” on the soda bottle label, but that seems to be too small, too subtle, and not nearly obvious enough. Now we will try printing it on the bottle cap so that each and every bottle opened will deliver the message loud and clear. That’s where the ambiguity comes in; we want to say “tip the bottle back and forth just a couple of times, very gently, to mix the fruit,” but that is just way too long. Plus everyone is arguing about the words “shake” and “tip” and “agitate” and “pulp.”
Each morning we arrive at the office with the new word or phrase to be excited about. “Agitate gently!” someone exclaims enthusiastically, only to get eyes rolling and snickers from all corners.
What do you think the cap should say?
