This batch of soda started life as apple soda, but came out of the soda-making machines (it’s like Dr. Seuss down there) as the most delicious, lemony soda you’ve ever had. It’s miles ahead of any other carbonated lemon drink we could find. (Yes, we ran out and tried them all.)
Special Edition HOTLIPS Lemon/Apple SodaAs you know, HOTLIPS Soda is made from real fruit and not concentrates or essences. Which is why each batch is unique based on the characteristics of that particular fruit. Varietal, field condition, climate, and time and method of harvest all have significant impacts on flavor. This is normal and a blessed truth about live food. It is also challenging, which is why no one else makes soda with real fruit. You can’t predict exactly what will happen. Like a maker of fine wine, we don’t try to produce the same ambrosia with every batch. Our charge is to make the very best soda from each batch of fruit.
Every bottle is a high-quality product, no matter the flavor, and unmatched by any other soda. Every batch is a special edition. We are fortunate that our loyal customers hold dear the value of eating real food.
The apples in this batch were milder in flavor than we expected and the lemon juice was stronger, with a powerful pucker, so the balance dramatically shifted. We have talked about making a citrus soda for some time, have met a farmer from SoCal and made a sample batch of soda from his blood oranges. Like our blackberry jam story, we entered into the citrus soda world ass-backwards but have arrived nonetheless.
